Jonathan Shun UNILAG Convocation

President Goodluck Jonathan and Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, education minister, shunned recently concluded convocation @UNILAG, also refused to send representatives to the occasion.
May as a result of Mr. president last visit during Democracy Day broadcast on May 29, 2013, had changed the name of the university to the Moshood Abiola University, an action that attracted a barrage of criticisms.
The public outrage forced the Jonathan-led administration to reverse the name change some months later.
However, the university’s 2013/2014 convocation, which began on Tuesday with award of degrees on 3,104 students, came to a climax on Thursday with the conferment of honorary doctorate degrees on three eminent Nigerians.
Jonathan, the VC added, supported manpower development as well as university education, especially with the Needs Assessment Funding Agreement targeted at upgrading the infrastructural decay in the nation’s ivory towers.
Bello, therefore, urged the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, to consolidate on the gains of higher education from the outgoing administration and entrench the implementation of the Needs Assessment Funding programme.

Hmmm....Changing Name like UNILAG wont be easy so Mr. President take Heart and forgive your Children...

This weakedness Mother Abandoned Child for greeting Neighbour

A young boy of 9, known as Kingsley tortured him for greeting a neighbour. was on Thursday abandoned at a filling station at Adetola bus stop on Ijaiye Road, Agbado, Lagos State, by his mother Blessing. She was said to have brought the boy from Ojuelegba, where they live and dumped him at the station around 7am.

Blessing the mother of the child left the area after telling the child that she wanted to buy some items at a nearby shop. Some Good Samaritans, however, later bought food for the kid before he was taken to the Ijaiye Police Station around 11am. The Kinglsey’s body was full of scars for which he held his mother responsible.

Kingsley said.

The primary two pupil said he had been a victim of malnutrition and abuse since her parents divorced each other.

“My mother and I moved to Lagos from Calabar (Cross River State) after she divorced my daddy.
“I live in Ojuelegba with her and my stepfather, Jonathan. She beats me every day.
“She will give me lashes for not waking up early to do domestic chores. At times, she won’t give me food to punish me.”

An employee of the filling station, who gave his name only as Deji, lamented Kingsley’s situation. He said the mother would be attacked by an angry mob if she came back. A Good Samaritan, who did not want his name in print, said he saw the boy sitting helplessly in a corner in the filling station.
He added that the boy was so hungry that he gulped the food and drink that were bought for him.
He said, “I was coming back from the office and popped over to buy petrol.

The Supervisor of the filling station, Adeola Olufunwa, said she was nearly detained at the station on the matter.
She said, “I was the one who noticed the boy’s presence around us and I alerted my colleagues.
“But funny enough, the police wanted to detain me for a case I knew nothing about.”
The Lagos Police Spokesperson, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, promised to get back to our correspondent.

Nigerians killed for trafficking drugs to the Asian country, despite appeals.

On Thursday  Federal Government summoned the Indonesian Ambassador to Nigeria, Harry Purwanto and protested the execution of four Nigerians killed for trafficking drugs to the Asian country, despite appeals.
The Undersecretary, Economic and Consular Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador, Bokunolu Onemola, who met with Purwanto in Abuja, conveyed Nigeria’s position to the envoy.

He said the men should not have been executed because of the robust relationship between Nigeria and Indonesia.

The Indonesian government had executed by firing squad Jamiu Owolabi Abashin, 50, Martin Anderson, 50, Okwudili Oyatanze, 41, and Sylvester Obiekwe Nwolise, 47, and other nationals for drug trafficking, on Tuesday.

But Purwanto in an interview with journalists after the meeting with Onemola, insisted that the execution of the convicts was carried out after all legal proceedings had been exhausted.

He said the case had been on for 10 years and Indonesia needed to make sure adequate opportunity was given to the convicts within the limit of the law, stressing that his government suspended the moratorium on death penalty due to the gravity and dangerous impact of the drugs on the citizens.

“There was nothing we could do for those four Nigerians because every legal process was completed and only then did the government of Indonesia implement the decision of the court,” the envoy stated.

He explained that Indonesia “suffers from the harsh reality of drug trafficking as about 4.5 million of our citizens especially the youths, are affe...continue....

Open Heaven; Topic: A New Beginning OF Prosperity – Friday May 1, 2015

Memorize: This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you. -Exodus 12:2

Read: Exodus 12:33-36
33 And the Egyptians were urgent upon the people, that they might send them out of the land in haste; for they said, We be all dead men.
34 And the people took their dough before it was leavened, their kneadingtroughs being bound up in their clothes upon their shoulders.
35 And the children of Israel did according to the word of Moses; and they borrowed of the Egyptians jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment:
36 And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them such things as they required. And they spoiled the Egyptians.

MESSAGE:When the Almighty God grants a new beginning to an individual or a nation, it could be a new beginning of prosperity. Imagine the Hebrew nation which for over four hundred years had been at the mercy of their Egyptian rulers, coming out of Egypt as millionaires simply because the Almighty God decided to grant them a new beginning. I pray for you that this month shall be to you as the first month of the year in astonishing prosperity in Jesus’ Name. How did the Lord do this for the Israelites? The Bible says that He gave them favour in the sight of the Egyptians, so that the Egyptians gave them whatever they asked for. The treasures of the Egyptians were transferred to them without them having to shoot an arrow. The Bible in Proverbs 16:7 says:

“When a man’s ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.”

This scripture sums up the experience of the Israelites. Whenever God makes a pronouncement, we shall learn to take Him at His word. Sometimes, this is easier read about than practiced. Imagine how difficult it would have been for the Israelites to believe that before daybreak after the night of the Password. They would cross over from poverty to prosperity.

“Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.” – Joel 2:23
For this beautiful prophecy to come to pass in your life, some spiritual conditions must be met. Prior to this prophecy, the Lord demanded that his people turn to Him with all their hearts: with fasting, weeping and mourning (Joel 2:12-13). He asked them to rend their hearts and not their garments, and return to Him. We can deduce from this narrative that the poor condition that a lot of people find themselves in today is caused by their spiritual poverty. Some people live in abject poverty because their lifestyle has turned God, who should bless them, into their enemy. Here is the good news: when this great God turns a life around onto godliness, he also changes the physical condition of the fellow concerned. Settling the issue of poverty was one of the reasons why Christ came (2nd Corinthians 8:9). In the Name of Jesus Christ, I welcome you to your new beginning of prosperity. Only believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and repent of your sins.

Prayer Point:
Father, in your infinite mercy, banishes poverty from every area of my life in Jesus’ Name.

Messi, Neymar and Suarez break Barca's goal record

Both  Lionel  Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez have now scored an incredible 102 goals in all competitions for Barcelona this season, after netting five of the club’s six against Getafe on Tuesday night, Sky Sports reports.

That’s a Barcelona club record for an attacking trio, surpassing the 100 goals scored by Messi, Samuel Eto’o and Thierry Henry in the 2008/09 treble-winning season under Pep Guardiola.

With at least seven games left to play this year – potentially eight, should they reach the Champions League final – Messi, Neymar and Suarez still have plenty of time to further extend that record.

And after the trio combined in fine fashion against Getafe – each scoring and providing an assist in the same game for the first time – there’s every chance they’ll do just that.

Messi, Eto’o and Henry fired Barcelona to an unprecedented La Liga-Copa del Rey-Champions League treble in 2008/09. Guardiola’s team was littered with star names in their pomp: Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets, Yaya Toure, Carles Puyol, Gerard Pique. Yet it was the devastating forward line that grabbed the headlines throughout the season.

Braces from Henry and Messi helped Barca hammer title holders Real Madrid 6-2 at the Bernabeu in La Liga, while the Argentine was again on target in a 4-1 thrashing of Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey final. Samuel Eto’o scored 30 times in the league, before hitting the opener against Manchester United in the Champions League final in Rome, where Messi headed in a fine second.

In total, Messi – who won the Ballon d’Or for the first time at the end of 2009 – scored 38, Eto’o 36 and Henry 26 as Barcelona swept all before them. Club president Joan Laporta labelled them the ‘best team in the history of Barca’.

This season, the treble is on again, with Barcelona five points clear in the league, set to face Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey final – and Guardiola’s Bayern Munich in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Across all competitions, Real Madrid’s attacking trio of Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo had actually scored the same number of goals as Barcelona’s frontline on April 11 – 88. In fact, Carlo Ancelotti’s men had four more La Liga goals to their name at that stage.

However, since then Barcelona’s trio have scored 14 in five, while Real’s three have scored one in four. Of course, injuries to Benzema and Bale have hampered B-B-C, but, nevertheless, Messi, Suarez and Neymar have scored their 102 in a combined 129 appearances, while it has taken Real’s forwards 134 appearances to score their 89 (including the Club World Cup and Spanish Super Cup).

None of Europe’s leading lights can offer an attacking trio to compare statistically with the Catalans this season.

Bundesliga champions and top scorers Bayern Munich have netted 77 goals in the German top flight this season but, across all competitions, top scorers Robert Lewandowski (23), Thomas Muller (20) and Arjen Robben (19) have scored ‘only’ 62 between them.

Paris Saint-Germain – who Barcelona knocked out of the Champions League quarter-finals – have scored more than any other French side in Ligue 1 but Zlatan Ibrahimovic (28), Edinson Cavani (24) and Ezequiel Lavezzi (eight) have netted 60.

Meanwhile, the three top scorers at Premier League hotshots Manchester City, Sergio Aguero (27), David Silva (11) and Yaya Toure (10) have managed fewer than half the number of Barcelona’s trio – 48.

Letter from Iyabo Obasanjo to Obasanjo "father you are a liar, manipulator, hypocrite

Getting back to my mother, I still remember your beating her up continually when we were kids. What kids can forget that kind of violence against their mother? Your maltreatment of women is legendary. Many of your women have come out to denounce you in public but since your madness is also part of the madness of the society, it is the women that are usually ignored and mistreated. Of course, you are the great pretender, making people believe you have a good family life and a good relationship with your children but once in a while your pretence gets cracked.

When Gbenga gave a ride to help someone he didn’t know but saw was in need and the person betrayed his trust by tapping his candid response on the issues going on between you and your then vice-president, Atiku Abubakar, you had your aides go on air and denounce the boy before you even spoke to him to find out what happened. What kind of father does that? Your atrocities to some of my other siblings I will let them tell in their own due time or never if they choose.

Some of the details of our life are public but the people choose to ignore it and pretended we enjoyed some largesse when you were President.

This punishing the innocent is part of Nigeria’s continuing sins against God. While you were military head of state and lived in Dodan Barracks, we stayed either with our mum in the two-bedroom apartment provided for her by General Murtala Mohammed or with your relatives, Bose, Yemisi and your sisters’ kids in the Boys Quarters of Dodan Barracks. At QueensCollege, I remember being too ashamed to tell my wealthy classmates from Queen’s College, Lagos we lived in the two room Boys Quarters or in the two room flat on Lawrence Street.

No, we did not have privileged upbringing but our mother emphasized education and that has been our salvation. Of my mother’s 6 children 4 have PhDs. Of the two without PhD, one has a Master’s and the other is an engineer. They are no slouches. Education provided a way to make our way in the world.

You are one of those petty people who think the progress and success of another takes from you. You try to overshadow everyone around you, before you and after you. You are the prototypical “Mr. Know it all”. You’ve never said “I don’t know” on any topic, ever. Of course this means you surround yourself with idiots who will agree with you on anything and need you for financial gain and you need them for your insatiable ego. This your attitude is a reflection of the country. It is not certain which came first, your attitude seeping into the country’s psyche or the country accepting your irresponsible behavior for so long.

Like you and your minions, it’s a symbiotic relationship. Nigeria has descended into a hellish reality where smart, capable people to “survive” and have their daily bread prostrate to imbeciles. Everybody trying to pull everybody else down with greed and selfishness — the only traits that gets you anywhere. Money must be had and money and power is king. Even the supposed down-trodden agree with this.

Nigeria accused me of fraud with the Ministry of Health. As you yourself know, both in Abeokuta and Abuja I lived in your houses as a Senator. In Lagos, I stayed in my mum’s bungalow which she succeeded in getting from you when you abandoned her with six children to live in Abeokuta with Stella.

I borrowed against my four-year Senate salary to build the only house I have anywhere in the world in Lagos. I rent out the house for income. I don’t have much in terms of money but I am extremely happy. I tried to contribute my part to the development of my country but the country decided it didn’t need me. Like many educated Nigerians my age, there are countries that actually value people doing their best to contribute to society and as many of them have scattered all over the world so have many of your children.

I can speak for myself and many of them; what they are running away from is that they can’t even contribute effectively at the same time as they have to deal with constant threats to their lives by miscreants the society failed to educate; deal with lack of electricity and air pollution resulting from each household generating its own electricity, and the lack of quality healthcare or education and a total lack of sense of responsibility of almost every person you meet. Your contribution to this scenario cannot be overestimated.

You and your cronies mentioned in your letter have left the country worse than you met it at your births in the 1930’s and 1940’s. Nigeria is not the creation of any of you, and although you feel you own it and are “Mr Nigeria” deciding whether the country stays together or not, and who rules it; you don’t. Nigeria is solely the creation of the British. My dear gone Grandmother whose burial you told people not to attend, was not born a Nigerian but a proud Ijebu-Yoruba woman. Togetherness is a choice and it must serve a purpose.

As for Nigerians thinking I have their money, when it was obvious I was part of the Yar’Adua (government’s) anti-Obasanjo phenomenon that was going on at the time. The Ministry of Health and international NGOs paid for a retreat for the Senate Committee on Health. The House Committee on Health was treated exactly the same way. The monies were given to members as estacode and the rest used for accommodation, flights and feeding. While the Senate was on the retreat in Ghana, the EFCC asked the House Committee to return the monies they received for their retreat and asked us in the Senate to return ours on our return which I refused, as it was already used for the purpose it was earmarked for in the budget that year which was to work on the National Health Bill.

The House Committee had not gone on their retreat. I did nothing wrong and my colleagues and I on the retreat did our work conscientiously. I asked the EFCC not to drag my colleagues into it and I am proud I suffered alone. As is usual in a society where people who are not progressive but take pleasure in the pain of others, most Nigerians were happy, not looking at the facts of the matter, just the suffering of an Obasanjo.

As the people that stole their millions are hailed by them the innocent is punished. When the court case was thrown out because it lacked merit even against the Minister, no newspaper carried the news. The wrongful malicious prosecution of an Obasanjo was not something they wanted to report; just her downfall. But it really wasn’t about me, it was about right and wrong in society and every society gets the fruit of the seeds it sows.

How do you think God will provide good leaders to such a people? God helps those who help themselves. I have realized that as an Obasanjo I am not entitled to work in Nigeria in any capacity. I am not entitled to work in health which is my training, or in any field or anywhere in the country or participate in any business. I have learnt this lesson well and there are societies that actually think capable, well-educated people are important to their society’s progress. Apparently, unless I am eating from the dustbin, Nigerians and possibly you will not be satisfied. I thank God it has not come to that based on God-given brains and brawn.

When I left Nigeria in 1989 for graduate studies in America, you promised to pay my school fees and no living expenses. This you did and I am grateful for because, working in the kitchen and then the library at University of California, Davis and later, working on the IT desk and later as a Teaching Assistant at Cornell gave me valuable work ethics for life. I wouldn’t have it any other way. As a black woman in the early 21st century, I have achieved much and done more than most. My wish is that black girls all over the world will have the capacity to create their lives, make mistakes, learn from it and move ahead.

Moving back to Nigeria, thinking I wanted to serve was obviously a grave mistake but one brought about by the tragic incident of April 20, 2003. This was the day five people were shot dead in my car. The mother of the children was an acquaintance I had met only one day before the incident.

We had attended the same high school and university but she was there ten years earlier than I. She had also studied public health in the UK as I had in the US. It was these coincidences that made us connect on our first meeting and then she decided to visit on the Saturday of the election of 2003 when the incident occurred. I am scarred for life by that incident and I know the mother was too as we both looked back to see two men on each side of my car shooting.

I understand her trauma and her behaviour since then can be judged from that. Nigeria is a nasty place that pushes people to lose their compass. I participated in the campaigns leading to the elections that day, more because this was my first experience of electoral process in Nigeria. Growing up there were no elections and I was too young in the 1979 and 1983 elections. It was interesting to see democracy at work. When Gbenga Daniel who I campaigned for offered me a job, I probably would have declined it, if not for the memory of the dead.

I felt I had to engage in making the country progress and to avoid such incidences in the future. I don’t need to tell you or anyone what kind of governor and person Gbenga Daniel is. As usual when I found out, you would not listen to my opinion but found out for yourself. I also campaigned for Amosun for the Senate in 2003. I have had some wonderful Nigerians do good to me, I will never forget the then Minister of Women Affairs, who saw me talking in the crowd at a campaign event and was alarmed and said “bad things can happen to you out there, I will give you one of the orderlies assigned to my office to follow you”. This was the police man that died in my car that day. I never really thought bad things would happen to me, I moved around freely in society until that shooting scarred me and I accepted a police detail. I was constantly scared for my life after that.

You called me after your vengeful letter as usual, looking out for yourself and thinking you will bribe me by saying the APC will use me for the Senate. Do you really know me and what I want out of life?

Anyone that knows me knows I am done with anything political or otherwise in Nigeria. I have so much to do and think to make this world a better place than to waste it on fighting with idiots over a political post that does no good to society. That letter you wrote to the President, would you have tolerated such a letter as a sitting President? Don’t do to others what you will not allow to be done to you. The only thing I was using that was yours was the house in Abuja where I left my things when I left the country. I eventually rented it out so that the place would not fall apart but as usual you want to take that as well. You can’t have it without explaining to Nigerians how you came about the house?

As I said earlier, this is not about politics but my frustration with you as a father and a human being. I am not involved with what is currently going on in Nigeria, I don’t talk to any Nigerian other than friends on social basis. I am not involved with any political groups or affiliation. You mentioned Governor Osoba when you spoke to me, yes I was walking down the street of Cambridge, Massachussets a few months ago, when I looked up and saw him reading a map trying to cross the street.

I greeted him warmly and offered to give him a ride to where he was going. This I did not do because I wanted anything from him politically but because that is how I was raised by my mother to treat an adult who I really had no ill-will towards. Some said he was part of the people that manipulated the elections for me to lose in 2011. I don’t have any ill-will to him for that because I think they did me a favour and someone has to win and lose.

I had told you I wasn’t going to run in 2011 but you manipulated me to run; that was my mistake. Losing was a blessing. As usual you wanted me to run for your self-serving purpose to perpetuate your name in the political realm and as the liar that you are, you later denied that it was you who wanted me to run in 2011.

In 2003 I ran because I wanted to and I thought getting to the central government I will be able to contribute more to improving lives and working on legislation that impacts the country. I found that nothing gets done; every public official in Nigeria is working for himself and no one really is serving the public or the country.

The whole system, including the public themselves want oppressors, not people working for their collective progress. When no one is planning the future of a country, such a country can have no future. I won’t be your legacy, let your legacy be Nigeria in the fractured state you created because, it was always your way or the highway.

This is the end of my communication with you for life. I pray Nigeria survives your continual intervention in its affairs.

Sincerely,

Iyabo Obasanjo, DVM, PhD

Massachusetts,

USA.

Disagreement between President Goodluck Jonathan and General Muhammadu Buhari

A disagreement has broken out between the transition committees of President Goodluck Jonathan and General Muhammadu Buhari as the president accused the Buhari team of acting like a parallel government and trying to stampede the Jonathan administration out of office.-

In his Address to state House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting Wednesday, the Minister of National Planning who is also a member of the Jonathan Transition Committee, Abubakar Suleiman said the Buhari transition team was making impossible demands from the government.
Although he did not name those demands, he however warned that the president’s magnanimity should not be construed as cowardice.

Open Heaven: Topic: Watch That Backsliding ;Thursday April 30, 2015

Memorize:
The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself. -Proverbs 14:14

Read: John 6:66-69
66. From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
67. Then said Jesus unto the twelve,Will ye also go away?
68. Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
69. And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.

MESSAGE:

Backsliding does not happen suddenly. It’s a process that occurs over a period of time, during which a person becomes lax in his thought life and begins to entertain from the path of light to the ways of evil from which one was once saved. There are many prodigal sons and daughters today who have forsaken their first love in the pursuit of materialism. Many workers in the vineyard of God, who started well, have allowed their spiritual fire to grow cold, thereby departing from the faith. Hebrews 10:38 says,

“Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.”

A backslider loses interest in the Lord, in the Bible, in prayer, fellowship and witnessing, and eventually turns to the world. It is like a dog returning to its vomit. You will not backslide in Jesus’ Name. The flesh will always find expression when people fail to focus on spiritual things. The flesh expression when people fail to focus on spiritual things. The flesh clouds the minds of God’s children with such things as idle past-times, sports and television, and fills their heart with junk at the expense of spiritual growth. Before you know it, backsliding would have commenced. Someone who has always been very zealous for God will then begin to miss church meetings when there are crucial match fixes. A sister who has been very productive in evangelism will then begin to come late to meetings because of addition to certain television soaps. As Christians who are Heaven bound, we have to be very careful. Let us keep ourselves away from danger zones as much as we can. You have to be very vigilant and sober so that the devil doesn’t drag you to Hell with little things you think do not matter (1st Peter 5:8). Those detrimental “little things” you fail to terminate may end up terminating your destiny (Song of Solomon 2:15)

Remember that even David, a man after God’s heart, fell for Bathsheba. Samson, the Lord’s anointed from the womb, lost his two eyes and was reduced to a prisoner grinding corn inside the enemy’s prison. One of my sons came to me complaining of a problem. He confessed that as every weekend drew to a close; he would get excited, looking forward to the next Monday morning because he would see his secretary again. I told him to disengage her from the job. A proverb in my native tongue says “Stay away from a snake whose head is still intact.” Whatever you can’t control will truncate your destiny. Whatever is capable of destroying your testimony must be avoided. Sometimes you need to apply wisdom and not strength (Ecclesiastes 9:18).

Action Point: Take wise, decisive action on any relationship that has the potential of destroying your testimony.

Also Defence authorities stated specifically that the military had not been able to confirm whether the girls were part of the Chibok girls, who were abducted by Boko Haram on April 14, 2014.

It was further stated that the troops also destroyed three terrorists camps including Tokumbere, which is said to be highly notorious (for crimes).

He said, “Troops this afternoon rescued 200 girls and 93 women from Sambisa. We cannot confirm if the Chibok girls are in the roup.
“The troops captured and destroyed three terrorists camps including the ‎notorious Tokumbere Camp in the Sambisa Forest operation.

The mystery of Buhari's Power and Politics

The mystery of Buhari's Power and Politics

In Nigeria’s political history, Buhari broke a unique record for people to emulate and his fellow politicians.

His victory made an historical significance in which the very first time a sitting Nigerian President at the point where ballots is still been counted conceded. By accepting defeat, he showed  that he is a man of his words, a man of great honour and courage.

He also demonstrated to the world that his “personal ambition is not worth the blood of Nigerian.
He also distinguished himself as an exemplary statesman and great nationalist who set himself apart as a great trustee of history.

History and the entire world will celebrate him and write his name in gold in commemoration of his great legacy.

This is a new era for Nigeria which is set to reawaking both the people and their leaders.

It’s a moment which has raised political cum social economic consciousness in the entire black race and the global  need for good governance and political tolerance among earthly leaders all over the world.

It has also created the need for leaders to sit tight and learn to govern their people with love, care and compassion, peace and justice as well as respect for human dignity.

For Buhari, it is golden opportunity for him to gird his loins, put on his crown of thorns, armour of breast plate, and brave the turbulent tides of change thrown up by fate and the benevolent spirit of the Almighty God.

It’s the time to bring to an end the era when thousands of jobless Nigerian graduates besiege the news stands in search of job opportunities in their father land, only to be confronted by frightening headlines about deaths, bomb blasts, frauds, strikes, inflated contracts, 419, money laundering, misappropriation of public funds and other corrupt tendencies. It’s a time to eradicate mediocrity, ethnicity, and religious bigotry and promote merit, equity and fairness among all citizens of this nation. To clean the Augean stable, the President-elect needs a divine courage, doggedness and positive attitude to do the right thing for the general good of the people who elected him

It’s an opportunity for Buhari and the APC political machinery to brace up and do great things for Nigerians, who gave them their mandate, by transforming the lives of the common man.

It’s the time to bring to an end the era when thousands of jobless Nigerian graduates besiege the newsstands in search of job opportunities in their fatherland, only to be confronted by frightening headlines about deaths, bomb blasts, frauds, strikes, inflated contracts, 419, money laundering, misappropriation of public funds and other corrupt tendencies.

It’s a time to eradicate mediocrity, ethnicity, and religious bigotry and promote merit, equity and fairness among all citizens of this nation. To clean the Augean stable, the President-elect needs a divine courage, doggedness and positive attitude to do the right thing for the general good of the people who elected him.

To succeed, I urge him to be humble and benevolent in victory by closing ranks with the outgoing president in honour and dignity, which he deserves as a great and distinguished statesman.

There is a very strong need for Buhari and the APC government to recognise and reciprocate the uncommon sportsmanship and spirit of magnanimity exhibited by Jonathan, by giving him a sense of belonging in the political governance of the country.

He must look beyond the Jonathan era and brace up to the challenging task of building a sustainable legacy for the future generation of Nigerians by fighting insecurity, corruption, impunity, executive lawlessness and incessant power outage across the country.

Now, it is time to move forward. On assumption of office, Buhari needs to hit the ground running by cleaning the Augean stable. He needs to clear the existing political stumbling blocks that lay his way.

He must bring in the bricklayer, rebuild the cracked walls of the homestead, and pa

Four (4) Nigerians and others executes for drug offences in Indonesia

On Tuesday Indonesian authorities on four (4) Nigerians and four (4) others for drug-related offences despite pleas by the United Nations, the European Union, Amnesty International and the Federal Government.

The Nigerians were identified as Martin Anderson, 50; Silvester Nwolise, 47; Okwudili Oyatanze, 41, and Jamiu Abashin, 50.

The convicts were reportedly taken to the Nusakambangan Island where they were executed by firing squad on Tuesday evening.

From UK Guardian, Abashin was said to be homeless in Bangkok when a new “friend” offered him $400 to take some clothes to Indonesia.

He was nabbed in Surabaya with 5.5kilogrammes of heroin and sentenced to death in 1999.

Abashin was said to have appealed for presidential clemency, claiming he never knew he was carrying the drugs. His plea was rejected.

Nwolise was sentenced to death in 2002 for smuggling a kilogramme of heroin into Indonesia.

Oyatanze was sentenced to death in 2002, after being found guilty of attempting to bring 2.5kg of heroin through Jakarta in capsules inside his stomach.

The United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, had on Monday personally appealed to Indonesia to stop their execution.

The European Union had also berated Indonesia’s plans to execute the convicts.

The EU had noted that the death penalty was not a solution to the rise in drug-related crimes in the country.

The only woman among the convicted, Mary Jane Fiesta Veloso, a Filipino, was spared in the last minute because a woman who reportedly tricked her into carrying drugs turned herself in.

The remains of the convicted would be taken to Jakarta, the Indonesia capital, on Tuesday according to reports.

Open Heaven: Topic: RESTITUTION – Wednesday April 29, 2015

Memorize: And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold. -Luke 19:8

Read: Luke 19:1-10
  1. AND Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.
  2. And, behold, there was a man named Zacchæus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.
  3. And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.
  4. And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.
  5. And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchæus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.
  6. And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.
  7. And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.
  8. And Zacchæus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.
  9. And Jesus said unto him,This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.
  10. For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
MESSAGE:

Restitution is the act of making right that which has been wrongly done to the injury of others. It involves restoring what has been wrongly taken, and repairing or giving the equivalent of any loss or damage. This is very important aspect of Christianity that proves genuine salvation. Even though this teaching is not popular among preachers today, the word of God is forever settled on it. If we are to experience a clear conscience and have a good testimony among those within the Church and in the world, we must obey the teaching on restitution. Restitution is not a 21st century teaching. It has been in practice from Bible days. While salvation is aimed at making your ways right with your Maker. Restitution is aimed at making your ways right with your fellow man. One is not complete without the other. It is the desire of God for us to correct all past wrongs which are correctable. If may be difficult to carry out restitution for wrong done in the past, but the mercy of God is always available to help, even it looks difficult.

if you have been genuinely converted, you should return those things that you may have stolen or converted to your own use which belong to others or to your place of work. This includes your tithes and first fruits, the non-payment of which is robbery. There are things that belong to others which you may have destroyed. Those must be replaced. Restitution includes reconciling with people who may have quarrelled with you in the past. We must make restitution for all lies and things wrongly said about anyone which have resulted in causing troubled for the person involved. Every marriage contracted contrary to the standards of the Bible must be visited and reviewed. There are some sensitive cases of restitution that you do not carry out alone. In such cases, you must seek counsel for those who are spiritually more mature than you. They will guide you through the help of the Holy Spirit on the appropriate way to go about it.

When you obey God making restitution, you will receive His favour. The favour of God removes all your years of labour and makes your life a blessed one. Also, when you restitute your ways, you will experience speedy answers to all of your prayers. This is because you have made peace with God and you have a clear conscience towards man. When you make restitution, you will no longer live under the bondage of fear, because there is nothing else to hide.

Action Point:
Prayerfully take steps to carry out restitution in every applicable area of your life.

Open Heaven: Topic: Choose to be Sanctified [Tuesday April 28, 2015]

Memorise: And such were some of you: but ye were washed, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. -I Corinthians 6:11

Read: I Thessalonians 5:22-24

22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.

23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

Bible in one year: Judges 16:23-18:31, Mathew 27:15-44

MESSAGE:

It is the express will of God that every believer is sanctified (1 Thessalonians 4:3). For us to become vessels unto honour, fit for the Master’s use, we have to be fully sanctified (1 Timothy 2:21). To be sanctified is to be separated unto the process of becoming like Jesus Christ inn character (2 Corinthians 3:18). Sanctification helps the believer to live a holy life. Right from creation, God has always been in search of vessels of glorify. The Lord will find you worthy for His glorious use in Jesus’ Name. Today, He is still looking for men to honour by using them. One thing you must know is that the scarcity of men is not the issue; it is the scarcity of sanctified vessels. A holy God cannot fill unholy vessels. A vessel that God will use for doing great exploits in life must be clean always.

All those who are still finding it difficult to deal with the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life cannot be used of God for honourable purpose. It is a great privilege for God to use a person. God will never play your role even though He wants to honour you. You must be made pure through and through by the Blood of Jesus. You must be willing to resist ungodly thoughts and every other thing that has the potentials of defiling you physically and spiritually. Sin makes a vessel impure. The choice is yours to make.

The one who wants to be used and honoured by God must refuse to compromise by following the norm (Daniel 1:8). You cannot go far if you are not ready to be sanctified. You cannot be an oracle of God if you are not ready to deny yourself of the present in order to buy the future. God’s vessels are not democratically elected. His choices are made based on what He deems fit for His purpose (Hebrews 2:4).

The moment He picks you and you are willing to leave your life in His hands, you will never regret that you did. The call to sanctification is a clarion call to all. It is a call of privilege to become a vessel of honour fit for the Master’s use. If you accept and allow God to perfect His good works concerning you, you will become a wonder to yourself. You must be willing to let go and let God work on your weaknesses.

You must be ready to decrease so that Christ may increase in you. Give attention to the study of you word of God. Memorise it and do mall that it commands. Do not love the world or the things that are in it. Beware of pride, rebellion, envy, strife, ungodliness and uncontrollable desire for wealth. Watch and pray. Do not allow anything stain your glorious garments. Get back to God and remain connected to Him in all that you do.

Prayer Point: Father, sanctify me wholly from every besetting sin by the Blood of Jesus shed on the cross.

ABOUT PERSECUTION

ABOUT PERSECUTION
BY AWM

Matthew 10:23, "But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come."

MATTHEW 10:16-26

Persecution is an inevitable part of the Christian life. Persecution is from Satan and is designed to uproot God's Word in our lives by taking our eyes off Jesus. We should not think it is strange to be persecuted. "All that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution" (2 Tim. 3:12). We can actually rejoice because we are being persecuted, for Jesus' sake, knowing that the Lord will be with us in the midst of the persecution and that there will be more than ample reward when we stand before Him (Heb. 11:26).

Persecution is an indication that the ones doing the persecuting are under conviction. They realize that they are not living what your words or actions are advocating and so, in defense of self, they attack the ones whom they perceive to be the source of their conviction. If this is understood, it makes persecution much easier to take. They aren't just mad at you; they are convicted. When the Gospel is presented in the power of the Holy Spirit, there will always be either a revival or a riot, but not indifference.

There are many forms of persecution. Having your life threatened because of your faith in Jesus is one way you can be persecuted, but it is not the most damaging. History shows that the Church has always flourished under persecution with increased numbers and zeal. During intense, life-threatening persecution, people's priorities get straightened out and the Lord assumes His rightful place. This always works for our good, regardless of what our outward circumstances might be. Remember it is not you that they are persecuting, but rather Christ in you.

Open Heaven: Topic: The Benefits of Salvation II [Monday April 27, 2015]

Memorise: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all. - Ephesians 1:22-23

Read: Ezekiel 36:24-30

24 For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land.

25 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.

26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

28 And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.

29 I will also save you from all your uncleannesses: and I will call for the corn, and will increase it, and lay no famine upon you.

30 And I will multiply the fruit of the tree, and the increase of the field, that ye shall receive no more reproach of famine among the heathen.

Bible in one Year: Judges 15:1-16:22, Matthew 26:69-27:14

MESSAGE:

As a child of God, it is part of your benefits to enjoy continuous spiritual victory over the kingdom of Satan. The devil is the last person that would like to see you saved. He is committed to anything that will pull you down from your new-found faith. You have to be aggressive in your response to him (1 Peter 5:8-9). Jesus with those words granted your authority as a believer in Luke 10:19

“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” It is this authority that you use in commanding respect. It is this authority that will make demons to bow. You use the authority in Jesus ton put challenges events and circumstances where they belong. For instance, it is the authority backing a policeman that makes him simply raise his hands to stop oncoming vehicles. As long as he is in that uniform, he will command obedience. If you are born-again, authority has been given to you. You are to make use of this authority to preach good tidings to the meek. You are to bind up the broken-hearted. You are to decree liberty to those who are captives and the opening of prisons to those that are bound. Your authority is to be used for commanding the devil and his activities out of your jurisdiction.

Some times ago, while travelling to Ilesha in southwest Nigeria, I saw a vehicle parked along the way at Ile-Ife. The bonnet of the car was opened, and on closer inspection, I saw one of my daughters standing by the car. I decided to park and find out what the matter was. I asked her what was wrong with her car. She replied that there was nothing wrong with the car, but that everything was wrong with her personally.

She told me that the baby in her womb had not moved for several days, and that the doctor had confirmed that the baby was dead. She parked her car to contemplate on what she should do. Since I was with her at that point, she asked me to just lay my hands on her stomach and speak the word of power so that the baby would come back to life. I did as she requested and continued with my journey.

The Lord honoured my words, and that child came back to life again. This same child graduated from the university in 2003. This miracle was made possible because of the benefits of salvation. Without salvation, I couldn’t have commanded even a dead cockroach to come back to life, but in salvation lies the power of resurrection. This is way I know that everything dead in your business is coming back to life, and the supreme power of God is swallowing up all the powers of the enemy in your life in Jesus’ Name.

Prayer Point: By the authority given to me by Jesus, I destroy everything limiting God’s benefits in my life.

Star contracted HIV in the church

Her story runs like a novel, yet it is no fiction. It underscores the saying ‘misfortunes bring out the best in a person.”

For Ghanaian actress cum singer, Joyce Dzidzor Nartey, the unfortunate turn of events in her life marked the ultimate beginning of a new dawn.

The 27 year-old mother of two battled growing up. Her humble background challenged her and she pulled many strings to escape poverty. She was determined to part with poverty. And she felt her skill in dancing could expose her to the entertainment world and possibly to stardom. The fund to pursue university education was not there but she believed in her skills.

Although she became vulnerable, exposed to rape and many vices the irony was that she ran to a church where salvation ought to beckon on her but doom followed.

A church member who was expected to preach salvation to her played A Patrick Sawyer to her. Just like the American Liberian who knew he was infected by the Ebora virus but who, full of evil, deliberately arrived Nigeria to spread it, the church member was infected by HIV virus and he decided to spread among members of the church.

And so Ghana’s Dzidzor Nartey contacted HIV in her church but today she is a star in many ways and the virus in her has been contained to the extent that she is living a normal life. She is HIV/AIDS Awareness Ambassador who has travelled to many parts of the world to create awareness on the virus and preach against stigmatisation. She is married and a happy mother.

Joyce is also a backup singer and has backed top Ghanaian musicians in her quest to make a profession.

Last year, she delved into movie production to intensify education and to complement the government’s effort to sensitize the public of the dangers of the disease. It is also to strengthen education on pre-marital sex and the dangers involved.

The movie titled, ‘My Cross Roads’ featured herself, and top Ghanaian film stars like Ekow Smith Asante, John Dumelo and Vicky Zugah. She also has a new movie in the market titled, “Jewel of the Waters”which she is using to further propagate her campaign against the spread of the HIV virus.

Interestingly, for the past seven years, Joyce has been living with the disease and on anti-retroviral therapy. She tells her story on DSTV’s AfricaMagic channel.

Living with HIV virus

I have lived with HIV/AIDS virus for seven years now. I contacted the disease in 2007. But I’m just a normal person. When people meet me and tend to find out how I’m feeling, I always tell them I’m a normal person.

As a matter of fact, I visited a school to educate the students. After talking to them they were keen to test for HIV. I also joined the queue and got tested but it was negative. It means one must stay with one’s medication forever. Regular medication can make it read that way. It doesn’t mean such a person is no longer a career.

How she contacted the disease

I contacted the disease in 2007, through a member of my church. I was to spend a night with him in his house. When he removed his clothes, I saw some kind of rashes all over his body. I was terrified, as I innocently asked him why he was like that

. He covered up, saying it was a minor skin infection and that it was nothing serious. But when he wanted to make love to me, I insisted that he must used condom. He told me that he didn’t like using condom.

However, when I insisted, he agreed but he never used it. He removed it while entering into me. We did it several times that night. After few weeks, I became pregnant for him. When I told him, I was pregnant, he advised me to abort the baby. But I refused, insisting on keeping the baby.

He later warned me that if insisted, I would have myself to blame in future. I never knew what he meant until I was diagnosed HIV positive. He also infected other ladies in the church before he died.

Growing up

Growing up was in a very poor background. I discovered my love for music and dance. I was very ambitious, passionate about my dance skills. All efforts to get help to go to school failed. I was vulnerable, most times raped. I had to attend all kinds of events in my neighbourhood to exhibit my skills in dancing. In my case, there was no one to confide in. I hawked all kinds of things to make ends meet’.

Why she became HIV/AIDS Awareness advocate

I was driven by the need to help other carriers of the HIV/AIDS virus. This is because most AIDS patients are brought to the hospital when they are almost dead. Victims find it difficult to undergo medical test to determine their HIV/AIDS status.

I realised when people get to know about their HIV status at the early stages and they are put on medication, they wouldn’t die. They would live their normal lives. So, I decided to use myself as an example. That was what motivated me to begin the campaign against HIV/AIDS virus.

Platform and the benefits

I started sensitising the people on the streets. I went to a business district in Accra, and my purpose of going to the area was to share my story, as well as sell some copies of my music which I had on CD to enable me realise some money to feed myself.

The first person I approached when I got there shouted, and never allowed me to utter a word. The moment I mentioned I was HIV positive, he shouted at me, and warned me to leave the place immediately. But I wasn’t discouraged.

Later, I went to Dacuma, another area. At the place, whenever there was traffic congestion, I would start to tell my story, “I’m HIV positive, you have to be very careful with your life,” I would start.

In addition, I had copies of my CD, but nobody was buying them from me. Some people thought I was lying, and that was when I met a certain pastor in the a traffic. I was moving from one vehicle to another, sharing my story with who cared to listen. When this pastor heard me, he parked and was ready to listen to me.

Then, he was running a TV programme in Amsterdam. At that moment, he took my contact, and later, he sent me some money to process my International Passport. He told me that he had a TV station as well as a radio station in Amsterdam, and he would want me to come over there and share my story the way I did in the traffic. Without hesitation, I applied for visa and travelled to Amsterdam in 2010. That was how my story changed.

Sharing her story on TV

A Ghanaian TV host, popularly known as KSA invited me to his programme, “Future Leaders” to share my story on air. I rejected the idea, insisting that I could only speak in schools and churches.

I told him that appearing on his show would be a very difficult one for me. But he insisted, advising that I should be bold about it. When I finally agreed to go on air, I requested that my face be covered as well as my voice distorted. He agreed to my condition, and I went on air to share my story. But then, I was still afraid to unveil my face to the world because of the stigma that is associated with the disease.

That was how I went on air for the first time in Ghana to share my story. It went on like that, until I suddenly made up my mind to come out. The reason being that I needed to educate the general public, and in addition,I realised that if you have a talent and you don’t have money, it would be very difficult for one to make head way in life.

So, I pondered over it and resolved within myself to come out. It was my belief that it would draw attention to me and by so doing, I could start singing, or acting for people to reckon with my talent. So, I saw two opportunities at the same time; educating people as well as getting exposure for my musical career. That’s why I became popular.

When she returned from Amsterdam

I returned from Amsterdam to continue what I started in Ghana. I was invited by different organisations. Later, I travelled again to speak on the topic “30 years of HIV, the way forward.”In 2012, I went for the AIDS conference in America.

Recently, I was in the UK, where I premiered my movie, “My Cross Roads” which captures my story. The movie was first premiered at the National Theatre in Ghana and it recorded a huge turn out of dignitaries. The storyline of the movie is basically about me. It’s a true life story of Joyce Dzidzor Nartey but currently, I have a new movie in the market titled, “Jewel of the water.”

Before we got married, my husband was educated about the deadly disease. But he is also a carrier of the disease. At the moment, medically both of us are negative to HIV virus. This is because we have been put on medication for long.

But that does not mean, we should stop taking our medication. Even though we test negative now, we keep taking our medication. We had one child together who did not test positive to HIV because of the medication.

Life after contacting HIV/AIDS virus

That’s not the end of the world for any carrier of the HIV/AIDS virus. There is life after contacting the deadly disease. The HIV virus can be found in the semen in the man, and not in the sperm because the sperm is what goes to form a baby. It doesn’t carry the HIV virus, but the semen is what contains the HIV virus.

So, HIV positive man who is on medication can share sexual activity with an HIV negative woman, and they both can produce an HIV negative baby. You can see that there is life after contacting the HIV virus.

HIV positive man can marry an HIV negative woman, and they can still make babies without him infecting the wife or the baby, just as an HIV positive woman can also marry an HIV negative man. There are a lot of couple today who wouldn’t come out to share their stories, but who are living with HIV/AIDS virus. They are keeping the secret to themselves.

Marriage life

Marriage for me was normal but they say, in every marriage there are challenges. Things have happened in the past which I wouldn’t want to talk about here. Talking about the stigma, there was one day, my seven-year old son came from school and told me to stop that HIV thing that I am doing. According to him, his friends said, they wouldn’t play with him because his mum is HIV positive. There are challenges but life must go on.
