Scales and Modes Lesson TWO



                                                            SCALES

Scales are derived from the Latin word "SCALA" which means Ladder.
A scale is a ladder of notes arranged in order of succession, either in ascending order or descending order, starting with the home note or tonic.
It is important to note that every SCALE is built on a FORMATION

KEYWORDs
Home note/Tonic: This is the starting point of a Scale

Ladder:   
A Ladder has a starting point and a finishing point. Also in a Scale, we have a starting point and a finishing point.
              When we ascend on a Ladder, it is expected of us to descend. Also in a Scale, we are expected descend when we ascend.           




                                               TYPES OF SCALE

 There are million types of scale but let us start with the common ones

Major SCALE

A major scale is built on a formation of TONES and SEMITONES.
A Tones is a Whole Step, A Semitone is an Half Step
